What’s Happening in the Fields Right Now and Why This Stage Matters

As the days get longer and the temperatures slowly begin to rise, something exciting is happening beneath the surface…

Our elephant garlic is waking up!

After months of quiet growth underground during the winter, spring is when things start to shift. Those strong roots that developed during the cold season are now fueling new green shoots above the soil — and it’s one of our favorite times of year to watch.

What’s Happening Right Now?

Out in the fields, you’ll start to see:

• Bright green shoots pushing through the soil

• Strong, steady upward growth

• Plants beginning to soak up sunshine and nutrients

• The early stages of what will become those big, beautiful bulbs

It might not look like much yet, but this stage is incredibly important.

Why Spring Matters So Much

Spring is when the garlic really begins building momentum.

All that winter work — the cold temperatures, root development, and energy storage — starts paying off now. The plants are using everything they stored to grow strong and healthy above ground.

The healthier the plant now, the better the bulbs will be later.

A Little Patience Goes a Long Way

Garlic is not a rushed crop — and that’s part of what makes it so special.

Every stage matters, and right now we’re focused on:

• Monitoring growth

• Keeping conditions just right

• Letting nature do what it does best

We’re not quite to harvest season yet… but we’re getting closer every day.

Looking Ahead

Before we know it, these small green shoots will turn into full, thriving plants — and eventually into the flavorful, oversized elephant garlic bulbs we’re so proud to grow on our Elephant Garlic Farm in Clarkston, Washington.

And yes… we’re already counting down to summer.
